Of Castles, Cathedrals, and Cobblestones

 <modified>2008-10-10T03:53+00:00

) It was a terrific break from real life the ship service crew tried hard (lots more about this good bad and ugly in posts to come) and my friend and I managed to find things off the daily schedule and beaten path…and so I come to my point.
Viking River Cruises seems to think they’re selling floating hotel rooms and three squares a day (with a fancy luggage tag thrown in for a touch of class.) They’re wrong; they’re really selling an experience and even within a target demographic there are many different potential customer experiences. In this case their target demographic is “white American middle- to upper-middle class couples average age 65+.” They’ve made some broad assumptions including: a. The customers aren’t interested in any real detail behind what they’re seeing; b the women all want to shop more than tour a museum; and c the women are with men who put up with the shopping. So where does this leave two extremely single white women (one 71 one 49) who love history and museums? Well we did our best with the perfunctory info provided at each stop the data we’d printed out on each city and our own two feet (
“Well according to the map the ATM should be on this corner…and what’s that huge interesting pile of stone over there?”
The tours were designed for moving as many herds as quickly and easily as possible through as many “important” sites/sights as possible. (By the end of day four I was resisting the urge to moo.) My friend and I had two choices: 1. Be herded and talked at; 2. Figure it all out pretty much on our own. Nothing in between. The cruise staff told us to ask questions…and then didn’t know the answers (this from people who do the same exact route at least 12 times a year).
In experience marketing (which is really all marketing) we must remember two things:
1. Targets are living breathing people who don’t neatly fit into categories. (Example: elderly white-haired men with two hearing aids editing their photos with their laptops and furiously typing on their PDAs during the trip.)2. Set expectations
and then meet them. (Example: If you’re promising a tour of one of the world’s great museums make sure it’s not mostly closed for renovation
<a href="" title=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym title=""> <b> <blockquote cite=""> <code> <em> <i> <strike> <strong>

Two cathedrals in Liverpool

Two cathedrals approach each other at opposite ends of Hope Street. Ask for the new cathedral and people don't know which direction to point you in because the one that was started first is the one that was finished last. The Gothic stone Liverpool Cathedral built between 1904 and 1978 is the largest Anglican cathedral in Britain. Its organ has 9,765 pipes now and is expected to have a total of 10,300 pipes by the end of the year. The concrete Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral built in the go between 1962 and 1967 is the most modern-looking cathedral in the country.
Scouse is a such a popular stew that locals came to be known as scousers. Ingredients may consider beef lamb potatoes carrots onions steal and tomatoes though it varies depending on taste and what's on hand. If you get out the meat it's called blind scouse.

The Best Lineup that Never Was: Cathedrals

 <modified>2007-12-09T15:30+00:00

I undergo hesitated at the thought of producing a list of the beat Cathedrals lineup that never was. The Cathedrals had so many distinct and unique sounds over the years that it would be hard to pin down one lineup and say that these singers could create any Cathedrals sound. This especially holds adjust at the tenor slot.
Tenor: John Rulapaugh. His vocal intonation is especially comparable to Roy agitate’s from the 1970s lineups. He could also sing most of the Talley and Haase repertoire.
Baritone: Doug Anderson. Though his voice doesn’t sound quite like any previous Cathedrals baritone. I have often wondered what the Cathedrals would have sounded like with Anderson should Scott Fowler have left to create Legacy Five before the Cathedrals retired.
Bass: Christian Davis. George Younce has deeply influenced so many bass singers that it is challenging to label just one. David Hester. Jeff Pearles. Tim Duncan and Christian Davis were the four that I most seriously considered. I ended up settling on Davis due to his demonstrated ability in performing several of Younce’s signature songs on his (Davis’s) recent aviate project. Make it Real.
Piano: Stewart Varnado. The Cathedrals relied heavily on the piano and used few soundtracks in their programs. Less than ten years later hardly any groups on the road do this anymore so while numerous Southern Gospel pianists no doubt could carry a program without soundtracks. I selected Varnado because he has demonstrated that he can and does every night.
I can’t think of a exceed choice for pianist than Stewart Varnado. While there are other great pianists out there (ie. Jeff Stice. Matthew Holt). Varnado has that same style and is taking on the same kind of presence on stage as Roger especially roger from the 80’s/early 90s.
My picks:Harold GilleyNick TrammellJonathan Willburn (did you use him already?)Matt FeltsStewart VarnardoI suggest Matt for tenor because he’s got a vocal ‘drive’ that fits Talley’s and Funderburk’s call very well. Yet he can sing change surface like agitate and Haase. Although I disagree. I see your point in picking Rulapaugh since he’s a more widley recognized tenor. But. I query who today can play like Haskell Cooley?
Rodney has some similar mannerisms and he is very good but to me he doesn’t sound a lot like Glen or undergo a similar style. Honestly. I undergo never heard a singer that reminds me much of Glen Payne. On the other transfer the GV songs that feature Rodney would have been great vehicles for Glen. I would undergo loved to have heard Glen sing “He’ll Carry Me” or “Faces”.
