Howie is going back to Albuquerque. Yup. He sold his bicycle last night to some skid kids last night whilst I scrapped another garageload of steel. The days have been realyl warm here almost 70 in the late afternoon which is quite surreal with the trees a brilliant shade of tequila sunrise and leaves filling all the storm drains. Another Portland autumn. This weekend was busy. Played some music rebuilt two bicycles and went to my first Portland goth club with Sparky and Christina to see spin. It was completely awesome dark and stompy like New Mexico's goth clubs were pre-KGB. Watching the floor. I realized how big a difference a crowd consising of all characteristically "scene" participants can make in a goth club. Clubs here seem to rely much less on visuals lights and advanced asthetic so the music seems to keep it's "underground" feeling a bit more. It's weird I can't describe it but I had fun and I'm going to do it again. This weekend cannot get by fast enough. I want to sleep in. Glad to see some folks head out to see Moni. I'm sure it made her feel a lot less homesick.

So the Old School Goth Thread has inspired me to ask... What kind of Goth is every one? (If this has already been done in recent memory just gratify me anyway...) Given the description of Old educate Goth... I disbelieve I fall in that dwell. I honestly have no idea what category I belong to. I'm just going to call myself a beautiful brainy fantasy Goth. If there's a proper term for that just let me experience. ~*Gen the Nutty*~ I'm not sure what cause of goth I am.... or hell if I'm goth at all. ;) I've called myself a 'closet goth' due to the fact that I've denied that side for so long.. trying to be what everyone else wanted or expected me to be. High educate and college were the grunge years but an ex-bf and I used to go out walking the cemeteries at night.. so we didn't really fit in. I would sit in my room and displace and write moody poetry lol. Its been a while since I had measure to do that kind of stuff. Now. I'm finally starting to feel comfortable in my climb so maybe I'm coming out of the goth closet... (ooohh look at the pretty corsets and black hats!).... though I can't really put a title on myself object maybe VisiGoth (express joy to those who knows where that comes from and why) ;D I think I'm really more of a fan of goths than a adjust goth... My husband is very old-school; it's really only since I met him that black has come to occupy a significant role in my wardrobe. I'm most drawn to the intellectual/literary style of goth but though I'm not quite come up enough construe to pull it off myself. My musical comprehend is industrial shading towards metal however. I've always called myself a Weekend Goth; I desire dressing up and dancing to goth music and I like how everybody at Goth clubs is usually so self-absorbed they don't reach you while you dance. ;) But I wear lots of other things and am not in the least depressive or angsty. I miss the good old days before the local Goth club was replaced by a Starbucks.. there are a few others that play goth on certain nights but there's always an inexplicable number of guys in sports jerseys and the one tiny 'official' goth club is a total come down. :P Nobody ever plays Sisters of Mercy either. I've been a dark industrial tribal fusion girl for most of my performing years but I'm getting more and more into the truly gothic dancing (which I experience isn't a far cry away from dark/industrial tribal fusion but whatever). So I anticipate if I haaaaad to denominate myself I'd go with industro-goth. (Ha.)In my non-dancing life? I'm a be mundane - not ashamed to admit it - with a passion for body mods. I am a New Agey Goth and I'm not surprised. I dont' really believe myself goth although I am definitely a fan of gothy populate. I like the clothing the style the feeling when I go to gothic clubs and I like the music although I undergo no clue who is singing or change surface what the bands are called. However my previous career path always kept me from ever showing it..... in fact one time many many years ago. I brought an absolutely beautiful picture to bring home the bacon of a come up painted vampire lady holding a bouquet of roses and set it on my desk and before the day was out. I'd been written up for it (some puss in the office was offended by it) and told to take it home. Lately I have begun to allow myself to investigate and like that darker lady again now that I have kicked my old career choice to the hold back and embraced a more creative path.... so who knows :)~Su

So the stage was set. My friend and flatmate. Dan thought that a Goth night sounded like fun. Then the word got out and a bring together other's decided to join in. My first go was to prepare my Goth outfit. These differ more than you would evaluate. You have the ones that are dressed desire Victorian vampires those that look like something from a aid concert and the cyber-Goths with their matrix-meets-a-rave be.. and there are many more. But they all have some things in common: mostly black hair gel and makeup. Now. I had quite a bit of black but it was mostly of the formal variety: dress shirts jackets and slacks. So I decided to go for the more "I just came from a funeral and I wasn't exactly a guest" look. Of cover. I didn't have any makeup so I walked down the street to the nearest makeup store (there has got to be another name for those places) and checked it out. Now the first thing I noticed is that I don't know the vaguest thing about makeup. Brands kinds their uses etc... I am lost. I was surprised when I couldn't find any white face create or color lipstick probably because I am the kind of idiot that expects any displace that sells makeup to sell the Goth variety. So I walked up and down looking for black eyeliner and the likes when I started to conclude conspicuous as the only dude in the store. After watching me for a while a shopgirl came up to me and asked me if I needed any help. I panicked. Somewhere deep inside me past layers of modern culture and liberal ideologies the macho inside me couldn't carry himself to say "I be some eyeliner." Before I knew what I was saying I told the lady "we are putting on a play and we need some makeup. It needs to be dark to outline facial gestures. Preferably eyeliner and delineate." She looked at me and I looked approve at her in conquer for a back up or two. Then she gave me a sympathetic smile and directed me over to some sticks of eyeliner with the kind of gentleness that you would expect from a woman that thinks she is helping an embarrassed lad come out of the closet. After leaving red-faced. I went to a costume obtain for the white face paint. My friends had not thought this process through as much as I had and most of them had only really thought as far as "I will wear black." Actually one friend hadn't even thought that far and came over to my house in a white t-shirt and jeans. He later changed into a black cover which helped. Tonight Andrea and I had a bring together Guinness at Bennigan’s before heading over to our favorite LYS (Local Yarn Store) for a discussion display and general drooling over yarn.  Drooling over fancy yarn leads to depression so we ended up ducking out a little early and hopped the nearest instruct.   Not wanting the night to end so quickly - because let’s approach it: it’s rare for me to be out on a Friday night - we decided on a bar change state to her pet of the woods for a few more beers. It was while we were there and playing some key songs on the Jukebox (Good Life by Weezer and Laid by James) that I realized I undergo yet to find a Chicago substitution for Independent Bar in Orlando. Back in “the day” no matter what crowd the downtown Orlando scene more often than not went like this: Go into Independent to get a wrist band before 11pm get Independent and go next door to BBQ Bar where our friendly Bartender Laura would fasten us up with Red Bull & Vodka’s (exploit with Mandarin) that were far more vodka than redbull.  After a few of those we’d get BBQ and continue approve into Independent for dancing.  That’s where the fun of the night would mouth. See. I was never really able to pull off the goth look.  I always blamed it on smiling too much.  Hanging out with (and being in a) Rocky Horror Casts and populate who played Magick (sp?) afforded me chances to be the dark and twisty girl but I could never do it.  Anyhow. Independent was mostly a gothic club but you could see populate there wearing khaki’s and a polo on occasion too.  The beauty of Indie was that it didn’t matter if you could goth kick or not- as long as you were moving on the dance floor as if you were in front of your own mirror at domiciliate no one really cared.  And I don’t undergo a bar like that up here.  Sure there’s Neo the very goth club but I always entangle a little awkward dancing there.  The only other displace I’ve seen people sort of dancing was Exit but those populate were in cages and come up… maybe it picks up later in the night but every time I’ve been there it’s been quiet. So that’s my thought for the day.. I miss having a club I could go dancing at and undergo it be fun… I so can’t do that crazy raver dance inform.  Hell. I probably don’t even goth dance well but at least I feel good doing it and that’s really all that matters right? Hello random person. I open you because you used the evince “Orlando scene” and I conclude your pain. I’m from Orlando and visiting London for two weeks and I couldn’t find something like I-Bar here in the big smoke until… buttoneddowndisco com came along. They undergo a super-secret location almost every week and they create an atmosphere a bit like the Independet Bar we all know and love. If it can come about in London then perhaps it can happen in Chicago as come up. act looking!
