"last assignment done, that must mean holidays?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 02:05:17

Today the fourth page of my capture mini-comic will upload. If you have missed the others here they are: and when it is the 7th: :)---On Tuesday i handed in my last uni assignment for the semester. Mostly I am full of relief that I managed ok with going back to uni after a three year break. The hardest part was just remembering all the small details in regards to referencing and that choose of thing. To make it worse my gothic literature tutor was the choose of person to correct the fact that some of my bibliography references didn't end with a beat forbid and attach me down accordingly (this is adjust!)So gosh did I analyse my bibliography so many times with the second essay. And because I am extremely good at procrastinating I set myself up a facebook profile over the weekend too! Facebook actually impresses me quite a lot now that I've seen it properly. Anyway having uni out of the way means I can just be forward to my one-week holiday which is next week! I am going to Melbourne to stay at a fancy hotel and eat cake sooo looking send to it. And finally because I don't like updating without a conceive of here is a repost of a drawing that I've already posted on the forums. It is relevant because it is an illustration of a bunco story we read in my gothic literature course and also maybe my favourite of everything we studied. Oooh lovely :-)The ironic thing about bibliographies is that if you ever sight yourself in a job where you be to alter them (like for example mine) you undergo to format it according to whichever journal you're submitting your manuscript to so there's no point in learning one particular style. I anticipate it was particularly weird for me because my previous subjects have been more in the art history/ancient history area where the tutors didn't compassionate at all about referencing properly. One of my tutors actually told us to reference "however you feel comfortable"

"Art of Darkness: A Poetics of Gothic" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-08 01:56:58

Art of Darkness is an ambitious attempt to exposit the principles governing Gothic literature. Ranging across five centuries of fiction drama and compose–including tales as diverse as Horace Walpole’s The Castle of Otranto. Shelley’s Frankenstein. Coleridge’s The agree of the Ancient Mariner and Freud’s The Mysteries of Enlightenment–Anne Williams proposes three new premises: that Gothic is “poetic,” not novelistic in nature; that there are two agree Gothic traditions. Male and Female; and that the Gothic and the Romantic represent a single literary tradition. Building on the psychoanalytic and feminist theory of Julia Kristeva. Williams argues that Gothic conventions such as the haunted castle and the family express signify the fall of the patriarchal family; Gothic is therefore “poetic” in Kristeva’s sense because it reveals those “others” most often identified with the female. Williams identifies distinct Male and Female Gothic traditions: In the Male plan the protagonist faces a cruel violent and supernatural world without hope of salvation. The Female plot by contrast asserts the power of the object to comprehend a world which though mysterious is ultimately sensible. By showing how Coleridge and Keats used both Male and Female Gothic. Williams challenges accepted notions about gender and authorship among the Romantics. Lucidly and gracefully written. Art of Darkness alters our understanding of the Gothic tradition of Romanticism and of the relations between gender and genre in literary history.
