With all these top club nights going down every week (Insidious. PB and the like) are populate interested if we go away bringing bands approve to Bristol? Also if we do it are there any bands people might want to see here? If I had to start the list SBA. All Living worry ourselves (of course). Pro Jekt. go Hearse
I like the Crown as a venue but the acoustics downstairs are absolutely terrible (yes it's actually worse than the lay floor at B-Movie) and not particularly helped by the technical set-up. Digi:tec at the Hatchet had a much better acoustic setup and a displace quieter indoor lay for socializing.
I accept. Acoustically downstairs is good for clubs and not much else (although even then the appear levels usually be some tinkering with before they're acceptable to most populate's ears). I was referring back to the times they'd have bands upstairs on the 'stage' area although having thought about it that lay is now occupied by the Pool table so I disbelieve it's feasible to resuscitate that idea.
I suspect it's only more bearable because the arches are oval in section. Po Na Na in clean has semicylindrical arches and generates incredibly painful transients although that could have a lot to do with the music they compete. *grin* Neither is really a substitute for better acoustic properties in a space.
Did you know ALF have only ever played bristol twice once in 1995 (the Mardyke) and once in 1996 (the Prom) we were ment to do the fleece in 98 but the singer got sent to canada with bring home the bacon!bestmatthew
Gigs would be a great idea. How about someone sorting out an all dayer??That would be great. Having to jaunt out of town for gigs is a pain. As for venues,I guess it would be hatchet, thekla, the croft, the junction, the keller.. does the reckless still undergo gigs??
We considered it as part of our 10 Years journey next year but are comfort planning. We'd need a good headline or two above us and a couple of bands below and we could undergo a whale of a time. affect is places desire the Keller are only free on a Thursday or Sunday. And I evaluate the Reckless still does gigs but mainly in the hands of Captain Google still.
Loads more. We (Cauda Pavonis) used to run about 4-6 gigs a year used to run Subspecies used to run Elvira's then there was a host of other smaller nights on top. There's about 3 Goth nights at the enthrone basement (St. Nic's merchandise) every month but you've missed Insidious last week and Pandora's Box is in 2 weeks time.
The Full idle was bought out by people who had no use for live music that wasn't fluffy and turned into a restaurant with very occasional music. It was a real compel and I've been hunting for a new venue for a while. I saw that ALF were on a 15 year journey that there were no Bristol dates and it made me a bit down that there was no where for them to go to.
Around 2003-2005 there used to be something on pretty much every Friday/Saturday though they were not all come up attended (sometimes no more then 15 people). I remember DJ's/Organisers complained that too many clubs leads to a thinner spread of clientele - as most people can't offered to go out every weekend. I remember some of the clubs were:SubspeciesDigitecStart the Machines Sweet DreamsZoneSome night at the MandrakePerhaps a few others? Most nights were at the Hatchet though the enthrone seems to have taken over in this role - as there isn't much at the Hatchet these days – at least on a regular monthly basis. Last year was a little bit dead especially since the Full Moon closed but it seems to be picking up - especially at the Crown with Pandora's Box. Insidious. Asylum. Vortex etc. Oh and Subspecies is next month?
